My name is Tina, and I have cerebral palsy. In fact, I have been living with the disability for 50 years. As recently as ten years ago, many people afflicted with CP didn’t live to this ripe old age. Today, with advances in medical technology and care, CP sufferers are living longer.
Unfortunately, the Internet seems to have missed this important fact. There is very little conversation available on the Web about living and working with cerebral palsy, and that disturbs me. So, I established this blog to start a conversation for those living with cerebral palsy and the loved ones who care for them. Together, I hope to explore how we can all make the most of this one life we have been given.
To begin, I’d like to share with you one of my favorite poems:
The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

Individuals with CP, like you and me, are forced to travel the road less taken throughout our whole lives. It can really help to travel that road with a trusted companion.
